Worship is central to the life of St. Gabriel's Church. The entire congregation participates in the weekly renewal of our faith through the celebration of the Eucharist on Sunday mornings, holy days and on other occasions. There is a mid-week Eucharist followed by bible study each Wednesday morning. Our South Street Chapel is always open for quiet prayer and meditation.
We welcome all to worship with us. We honor our space as a house of God. Whatever tradition is yours, please find no barriers here, and receive the sacrament of Holy Communion. If you are a family with young children, then it is a special joy for us to invite them to the altar rail for communion or a blessing.
Holy Eucharist Rite I - 8:00 a.m. in the Chapel: Our beloved Rite I service in the smaller and more intimate Chapel is a traditional, contemplative, Holy Communion service. Hymns are accompanied by an organist. Worshipers should arrive approximately 10 minutes prior to the service and enter through the Chapel doors on the left as you face the church grounds. The service lasts approximately one hour.
Holy Eucharist Rite II - 10:00 a.m. (9:30 a.m. during the Summer) in the Church: This more contemporary service, held in the Main Sanctuary, is characterized by music and family participation. Throughout the fall, winter and spring, we enjoy the music of our large, enthusiastic choir, guest musicians, and beautiful organ. Dress is casual. Worshipers with children should arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the service so that their children can participate in our Church School. The entrance to the Church is straight up the path through the courtyard to the glass double doors. This service lasts approximately one and a quarter hours. Following the service, be sure to join us in the Parish Hall for organic coffee, baked goodies and fellowship.
Church School: Church School begins at 9:45 in the Church School wing during the school year (Sep-May). The classrooms are located on the right side of the courtyard (just past the Parish Hall) through the glass double doors. The church school is open to all children, Pre-K through 6th grade. We are using a wonderful curriculum called "Godly Play". This is a child-friendly, hands-on program for building faith and understanding through storytelling, play and artistic expression. After Church School, the children typically rejoin their parents in the Church for Holy Communion. During the summer, we offer child care for the duration of the 9:30 service, consisting of craft activities, games and snacks for all children through 6th grade. Drop-ins and guests are encouraged at all times.
Nursery: Our nursery is currently open for 10:00 (9:30 summer) Sunday services. The nursery is located through the glass double-doors on the right-hand side of the courtyard just past the Parish Hall. The nursery room is the 4th door on the right side of the hallway. Nursery staff is in attendance for the duration of the service.
Wednesday Holy Eucharist - 7:30 a.m. in the Chapel: On Wednesday morning, there is a brief Holy Eucharist in our Chapel, followed by Bible study in the Library (located in the office area connected to the Chapel). The Bible study addresses the lectionary passages for the upcoming Sunday. All are invited.
