Our Youth Ministries
Saint Gabriel's is working to expand its youth ministries, particularly for junior high and high school-aged students. Please make yourself known to us if you have children who might be interested in participating or if you have a heart for youth and would like to join us in this enormously rewarding ministry.
Acolyte Program: Our group of dedicated acolytes forms the core of our youth ministry. We use a team approach to acolyting each Sunday, with a group of 3-4 young people acting as acolytes. Training is held periodically and teens serve approximately once every other month. The program is open to all teens from rising 6th graders through high school. For more information contact the clergy, Jean Sudduth, or Kim Tirrell.
Youth Mission and Service: We believe that one of the greatest ways to change the life of our youth is through mission and service projects. Youth were included on both our 2005 and 2009 El Salvador mission teams. We are currently beginning a four-year cycle of youth mission service trips:
- Year 1 (2010) - Local Service Trip to New Bedford
- Year 2 (2011) - Regional Service Trip to Boston or Providence
- Year 3 (2012) - National Service Trip (ex. hurricane or flood relief, Appalachia, Indian Reservation, etc.)
- Year 4 (2013) - International Service Trip
Contact our rector, the Rev. Geoffrey Piper, for more information.
Youth Alpha, Youth Group and Confirmation Classes: St. Gabriel's has made youth ministries a high priority for the immediate future. We are currently working on putting together stronger youth offerings such as Youth Alpha and outreach opportunities. In the spring of 2007 our confirmation class enthusiastically participated in Diocese-wide events at the Barbara C. Harris Camp in New Hampshire this year as well as a deanery-wide confirmation. The youth then blessed the congregation by leading a full Sunday service, delivering several inspirational homilies. If you are interested in participating in our youth program or in providing leadership, please contact the clergy or Nancy Griswold.
Nursery Staff: Nursery care is now provided year-round during the 10:00 (9:30 in summer) service in our nursery room. The room is located just past the Parish Hall to the right through the glass doors. We are always seeking responsible, motivated teens to be trained to staff our nursery throughout the year. Please see Julie Jennings for more information.
