Our Sunday Ministries

We invite you to become involved with our many lay ministries supporting our Sunday services.  These ministries are a great way to get your feet wet, provide an essential service, and meet many wonderful people around the church.  We couldn't do it without you!

Acolytes: This is a good opportunity for youth in 6th through 12th grade to participate in Sunday worship by leading the processional entrance and exit from the church and assisting with the offering and sacraments.  Training is provided, and youth serve approximately once a month at either the 8:00 or 10:00 service.  Contact Jean Sudduth or Kim Tirrell for further information.

Altar Guild: The Altar Guild ministers to us through caring for and setting out the proper linens, vestments and instruments as we rotate through the changing church seasons.  This special group lovingly prepares God’s house for worship and communion.  Contact Cathy Roberts for information.

Altar Flowers: Altar flowers may be donated in memory of or thanksgiving for a family member, parish member or special friend.  Whenever possible, the flowers are delivered to homebound or hospitalized parishioners following the service.  Special floral offerings are part of our Christmas and Easter services as well.  Contact Hanna Milhench for more information on floral donations.

Chalice Bearers: Chalice bearers assist the clergy by serving the wine at either the 8:00 and 10:00 service.  Brief training is provided.  Contact Russ Hotte for information.

Lectors/Prayer Leaders: Lectors share God's word with us by reading the 1st Lesson with the Psalm or the 2nd Lesson.  Prayer leaders are also needed to compile and lead the Prayers of the People by composing prayers according to a basic format or using one of the forms in the Book of Common Prayer.  Some lectors prefer to specialize in either reading lessons or leading the prayers; some choose to do both.  Readings are assigned on a quarterly basis and a schedule is provided. Lectors typically read once every 4 to 8 weeks.  This is a quick, easy, and fun ministry that provides a very valuable service to the congregation.  Contact Russ Hotte for information on becoming a lector or prayer leader.

Healing Prayer Ministers: This ministry is provided to parishioners during the 10:00 communion service for those who wish to have laying-on-of-hands and healing prayer for themselves or on behalf of others.  Two lay ministers are available in the niche outside the sanctuary to pray for those who wish it as they leave the communion rail.  The Healing Prayer Ministry team provides training and support for those who are called to serve in this way.  Please contact the clergy or Barbi Sanderson for more information.

Ushers: Ushers are men and women who perform the key tasks of assembling bulletin materials, greeting  worshipers, assisting with seating and information, and collecting and counting the offering.  This is another simple and fun opportunity to welcome others into the church and provide invaluable service to the congregation.  Ushers are scheduled on a rotating basis and serve every 8-12 weeks.  Contact Richard Laine for information.

Coffee Hour Host or Hostess: Each Sunday during the Fall, Winter, and Spring, parishioners are paired up to provide fresh coffee and simple snacks, juice and other goodies for the Coffee Hour following the 10:00 service.  On warm spring days, we often move tables out to the courtyard to enjoy the weather.  This ministry of fellowship allows for friendships to develop between Coffee Hour hosts as well as members of the congregation, who enjoy an opportunity to chat and connect.  There are always experienced hosts on hand to help out with the coffee.  Parishioners are typically scheduled 2-3 times per year.  Please contact Cassie West for coffee hour information.
