Our World Mission and Local Outreach Ministries

Saint Gabriel's is committed to supporting the U.N. Millennium Development Goals to eradicate extreme poverty through its mission and outreach work, both in the community and in the world.

Local Outreach Ministries

Friendship Tables: Friendship Tables is a feeding ministry in which a free monthly meal is provided to all in the community who would like to join us for fellowship and a delicious dinner (often accompanied by piano music).  Originally located in Wareham, we have now begun serving at St. Gabriel's Parish Hall on the 1st and 3rd Thursday nights of the month at 5PM.  This effort will particularly address the needs of the local tri-town area (Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester) and will be led by a coalition of local churches.  Parishioners are invited to lend a hand with preparing, serving and cleaning up after the meal.  We are also grateful for home-made desserts which can be dropped off in the Volunteer Room in the office area by 2:00 on the day of the dinner.  Please contact Richard Lima for more information.

Market Ministries:  On the third Monday of each month, Saint Gabriel's makes and serves soup at the Market Ministries soup kitchen in New Bedford, MA.  Soup is made in the Parish Hall kitchen each month by a different team of cooks, using an established tried-and-true recipe.  This is a wonderfully rewarding ministry, and we can always use more soup-making teammembers.  Please contact Bob Bunnell for more information.

Damien's Food Pantry: Saint Gabriel's supports Damien's Food Pantry in Buzzards Bay, MA on an on-going basis through food donations which may be brought to the church on Sundays or dropped off in the Volunteer Room in the office area.  Most needed items are peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, and similar non-perishable items.  Please contact Hanna Milhench for more information on this ministry.

World Mission Ministries

El Salvador: In June 2005 and June 2009, the rector and several parishioners made mission trips to El Salvador.  We have continued to have frequent communication with several of the priests whom we met there and are in the process of setting up a companion relationship with the mission church of San Miguel Arcangel in the town of Quetzaltepeque, west of San Salvador.  We have participated in a number of Salvadoran ministries including the donation of high school scholarships, school supplies, spanish bibles, glasses for several parishioners, a sound system, and spanish children's books.  We are hoping to build a relationship with our Salvadoran brothers and sisters in Christ through this growing companionship between the two churches.  For more information, please contact Karen Hotte.

World Mission & Local Outreach Committee

This committee is charged with the administration and donation of funds designated for outreach and mission purposes.  The group uses the funds to support both global and local organizations.  The committee meets on the 4th Thursday of each month at 10:00 in the Volunteer Room in the office area.  All interested persons are invited to join and/or suggest ministries which might benefit from our support.  For information contact Judith Kleven.
